Reimagining Elderhood

Reimagining Elderhood is a multi- strand collaborative research project. Islander were chosen as one of three practices to explore the future housing needs of people currently in mid-life in Ireland, and the role of community- led approaches in providing innovative responses to this challenge.

Our approach to reimagining elderhood is to tackle the topic as a dialectic; Can our neighbourhoods support intergenerational living in a housing crisis that is growing old? Our young people are living with their parents longer and our elderly are living with their children more. If we want to design ‘future-orientated’ neighbourhoods, we need to collaborate with those still in school as well as those about to retire.
