Oldtown Village Health Check Launch

In January 2023 the Oldtown Community Council appointed Islander Architects as their consultants in carrying out the Health Check on their behalf. The purpose of this publication is to collate up-to-date information on the current economic, social, environmental and physical situation relating to Oldtown Village. It was the ambition of the Oldtown Community Council that this publication should be solutions oriented and assist the community in moving towards a sustainable future for the village. 

A community wide sense of place survey was launched to explore what Oldtown means to its residents. This survey was an opportunity those who live, work or learn in Oldtown to provide their suggestions, ideas and concerns for the future of Oldtown. Its aim was to give a voice to the community, to have their say and be heard. 

As part of our community participation strategy we organised public engagement workshops which aimed to:

• Connect with a diverse range of residents in Oldtown 

• Listen to those living and working in the village to understand their concerns and priorities through informal discussions

• Identify key social, spatial & physical assets

• Build momentum and interest in a future vision of Oldtown.

We identify projects, enablers and timelines for delivery so that the way forward can be successfully implemented. The choice to publish this health check as a book was intended to make it durable and worth cherishing as an important reference for the community of Oldtown Village.

This is a vision worth remembering.
